Take measures to reduce overcrowd in trains

Indian Railways has recently announced various new changes in the Tatkal ticket scheme keeping in mind the public interest. Accordingly, from the 1st of last month, the system of booking Tatkal tickets only by users who have verified their Aadhaar on the IRCTC website and mobile app has come into effect. From July 15, OTP-based verification along with Aadhaar has also been made mandatory. Also, authorized agents will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets for the first 30 minutes from the opening time.
Indian Railways is also considering some other projects. It has been decided to install surveillance cameras in train coaches for the safety of passengers. Surveillance cameras are to be installed in 74,000 train coaches and 15,000 train engines.
18 people died in a stampede at the Delhi railway station as thousands of passengers gathered to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh. It was alleged that the incident took place because many people were given tickets to travel in unreserved coaches at the same time. Following this, the railway administration is focusing on bringing about changes in unreserved coaches.
There is seating capacity for 90 to 100 people in an unreserved compartment. However, every day, 300 to 350 people travel in unreserved compartments in each train, in a suffocating manner. When passengers boarding at stations along the way also join in, passengers are facing various hardships. They have to travel for a long distance while standing in a cramped situation.
That is why, to control overcrowding in unreserved coaches, the Railways is implementing a scheme to provide only 150 tickets per unreserved coach attached to long-distance trains. This has been implemented on a trial basis.
Most express trains have 4 unreserved coaches each. If the new scheme is implemented, if there are 150 tickets per coach, then only 600 tickets will be issued in a given time.
Should the railways create congestion by offering three times more tickets than the existing number? This is a question that has been raised for many years, not just yesterday. The time to get an answer to it has now come.
Therefore, it is welcome that Indian Railways is introducing a new change to avoid overcrowding of passengers in unreserved coaches. To implement this scheme properly, the Railways may also focus on adding additional unreserved coaches depending on the need.
"This new scheme is going to be implemented soon for the convenience and safety of passengers. The pros and cons will be considered and procedures will be formulated," the railway administration has announced.
With the new scheme, passengers can travel in unreserved compartments with a little more ease and ease, and may Nannal blossom at express speed!
