Tamil Language would function without the support of other Languages, says Stalin

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin honoured former vice-chancellor M Rajendra, professor K Nedunchezhiyan and a French national Lan Luick Sevviyaar with Kalaignar M Karunanidhi Semmozhi Tamil award on Monday. 

Addressing the gathering after distributing the awards at Perumbakkam in Chennai, Stalin said, “Tamil language would function without the support of other languages. 
It is the DMK government that has got the 3000-year-old Tamil language, the semmozhi title.” Every year, though the Kalaignar M Karunanidhi semmozhi trust, the award has been bestowed to scholars and as a part of the award, cash prize worth Rs 10 lakh, a certificate and miniature of the former chief minister would be given to the awardees. 

After honouring the first set of awardees in 2010, the then AIADMK government had stopped the award for almost ten years. Now, after a decade-long gap, the award was announced in 2022. 
While the award for the year 2020 was bestowed to former vice chancellor Rajendra, the award for the year 2021 was given to the professor Nedunchezhiyan and the award for the year 2022 was given to the scholar from France.
