A day after a protest-turned-violent in Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu on Monday chaired a meeting with North zone IG, Kallakurichi police superintendent and other officials to prevent untoward incidents in the district.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Babu said that officials would be examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the school hostel where a class XII girl was found dead on Wednesday and the violence broke out at the protest would be investigated separately.
Family members and others had staged a protest in front of the school premises on Sunday demanding the state government to conduct a proper inquiry into the death of the girl as it is suspected to be a murder. They demanded a re-postmortem on the body of the deceased and sought action against those involved in her death.
Within hours, the peaceful protest turned violent and protestors threw stones at police personnel, burnt police vehicles and damaged school properties and vehicles. He, further, said that about 70 people were being booked for rioting and damaging public properties. He had warned of strict action against those who were involved in violence. The state government on Sunday transferred the case to CB-CID and arrested three people - correspondent, secretary and principal of the school - after the district witnessed a massive protest and protest.
