Tamil Nadu Police Is Better Than Other State Police, Says Minister EV Velu

Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports Minister EV Velu inaugurated the Adamangalam Pudur Police Station in Kalasapakkam taluk, Tiruvannamalai district, on February 26. The event was attended by Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker K Pichandi, District Collector K Tharpagaraj, Tiruvannamalai MP CN Annadurai, Kalasapakkam MLA PSD Saravanan, and District Superintendent of Police M Sudhakar.
Speaking at the event, Minister Velu emphasised the crucial role of the police force in maintaining law and order in Tamil Nadu. He highlighted that the state has 1,877 police stations, including 241 all-women police stations and 280 traffic police stations. The police force comprises 1,33,892 personnel, including 11 Director Generals of Police, 22 Additional Director Generals, 44 Superintendents of Police, and over 33,000 inspectors and sub-inspectors.
He stated that Chief Minister MK Stalin has allocated Rs. 12,543 crore for the Tamil Nadu police department in the 2024-25 financial year, reinforcing the government’s commitment to law enforcement.
Discussing the Tiruvannamalai district, the minister noted that while it is a major spiritual center, it also plays a key role in maintaining law and order. 
The district has 55 police stations, including 39 law and order stations, seven all-women stations, one crime branch station, three traffic stations, and four liquor prohibition enforcement stations. 
He recalled that on August 24, 2023, a new police station was opened along the Girivalam path, further strengthening security measures in the region.
Minister Velu also outlined the government's recent initiatives to support the police force, including: Rs. 5 crore allocated for protective equipment during COVID-19, Rs. 5,000 incentives for 1.17 lakh frontline police personnel, the establishment of the 5th Police Commission to improve public relations, an increase in risk allowance from Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,000, the creation of 39 new all-women police stations to combat crimes against women, the construction of 2,882 police quarters at a cost of Rs. 482 crore, the establishment of 42 new police stations at a cost of Rs. 85 crore.
Other officials present at the event included Arani Revenue Divisional Officer Balasubramanian, Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoharan, and various government department officers.
