Tea shop sealed for selling drugs in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, a tea shop on Crosscut Road, Gandhipuram was sealed by authorities for selling narcotics. Acting on a complaint, Kattur Sub-Inspector Ayyasamy and his team conducted a search of the premises and discovered 89 kg of drugs. The shop owner, Dinesh Kumar (43) from RamNagar, was arrested, and the shop was subsequently closed and sealed by the Food Safety Authority.

During interrogation, Dinesh Kumar admitted, "The shop did not generate much income, so I started selling prohibited drugs that are easily available in Karnataka. I purchased the drugs there and transported them to Coimbatore by bus, hiding them in tea powder packets in my shop and selling them to bus passengers. I sold a packet worth Rs. 5 for Rs. 10, making a significant profit. My shop's frequent crowds drew the attention of neighbours, who reported me to the police. I had planned to buy more drug packs and sell them in the morning," he confessed.

In a similar incident, the Podanur police arrested Mohammad Nawaz (26) for selling drugs in the Vellalore housing unit, seizing 22 drug pills from him. The police are continuing their efforts to crack down on drug-related activities in the region.
