Sri Ramakrishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, marked Teachers’ Day today with a special programme at the college auditorium to commemorate the birth anniversary of former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
The event was presided over by R. Sundar, Managing Trustee of S.N.R. Sons Trust. Principal and Director P.L. Sivakumar spoke on the significance of Teachers’ Day and the role of educators in shaping society.
The chief guest, P.K. Mahanagaran, Additional Registrar of V.I.T. University, presented awards to professors and departments. In his address, he said teachers should serve as role models by sharing knowledge effectively with students. With opportunities and facilities for students expanding, he emphasized the importance of teachers enhancing their skills, focusing on research, publishing scholarly works, and strengthening communication abilities.
In recognition of excellence, Assistant Professor D. Divya of MBA received the first prize with a cash award of Rs. 15,000 and a certificate. The second prize went to G. Maria Prasil, Head of the Department of Computer Science, who received Rs. 10,000 and a certificate. The third prize was awarded to D. Santhanakrishnan, Head of the Department of B.Com. Professional Accounting, who received Rs. 5,000 and a certificate.
Among the departments, the Department of International Business secured first place and was awarded Rs. 25,000 and a certificate. The MBA department won second place with Rs. 20,000 and a medal, while the Departments of B.Com. CA and Computer Science shared third place, receiving Rs. 15,000 each and certificates.
Prizes were also distributed to teachers and non-teaching staff who excelled in cultural and sports competitions. The programme began with a welcome address by V.C.K. Swarna, Assistant Professor of English, and concluded with a vote of thanks by S. Kritish, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science.
