The second phase of tree plantation begins at Elcot Tidel Park

The second phase of the Urban Afforestation Project kicked off on Saturday, at Coimbatore Elcot Tidel Park with a massive tree plantation drive, aiming to plant 20,000 tree saplings. This initiative aligns with the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, following HDFC's introduction of a tree plantation drive as part of their Parivartan project in December 2023.
Phase 1 of the project involved planting 25,000 saplings at Coimbatore Elcot, a joint effort on the ELCOT OSR land, with a total project value of approximately 1 Crore and 45,000 trees planted overall.
Round Table India serves as the NGO partner for the initiative, with exclusive grant support from Home of Hope, a US-based charitable organisation. Supporting NGOs include Coimbatore Round Table Spark 323, Ladies Circle India, and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Smart City RID 3201.
The tree plantation is executed by communiTREE, a company dedicated to creating urban forests and managing 1.1 million trees across South India.
The launch of Phase 2 saw the presence of esteemed guests, including Kranthi Kumar Pati IAS, District Collector Coimbatore, and Dhanalakshmi, Administrative Officer ELCOT Vision, among others. Students from various schools, colleges, Rotaract Clubs of Coimbatore RID 3201, and young volunteers participated in the tree plantation drive.
The project aims to establish a tree tunnel using an intense plantation method, preserving and reintroducing an urban forest ambiance to enhance biodiversity, reduce temperature, noise, and dust pollution, and create mentally and physically stronger communities while enhancing surface water level and soil quality.
