The Tamil Nadu government has announced that Thenmozhi Soundararajan, an author, activist, and executive director of the U.S.-based civil rights organization Equality Labs, has been selected for the prestigious Vaikom Award 2025.
Thenmozhi Soundararajan, who hails from California, USA, has been recognized for her tireless efforts in advocating for social justice, equality, and human rights. Her work, particularly in championing Dalit rights and digital equity, has received global appreciation.
Announcing the award, the Tamil Nadu government stated that the Vaikom Award celebrates individuals who uphold the ideals of the historic Vaikom Satyagraha — the movement that stood for equality, human dignity, and the eradication of caste-based discrimination.
As part of the honour, Thenmozhi Soundararajan will receive a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a gold-plated medal, and a certificate of appreciation.
Officials said the award presentation ceremony will be held soon, where her contributions toward social empowerment and reform will be formally recognized.
The Vaikom Award remains one of Tamil Nadu’s most respected recognitions, celebrating those who carry forward the legacy of social transformation through inclusive action.
