A 25-year-old youth from Tiruppur, declared brain-dead after a sudden brain hemorrhage, has given a new lease of life to five patients through organ donation.
The youth, Naveenkumar, son of Annadurai of Tiruppur, collapsed on September 3 following a brain hemorrhage triggered by high blood pressure. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to the intensive care unit of KMCH, Coimbatore, where he was declared brain-dead the same day.
In a moment of compassion, his father Annadurai, brother Gopal, uncle Karthik, and sister Revathi consented to donate his organs. With the approval of the Tamil Nadu Organ Donation Commission, his liver, kidneys, and eyes were harvested. The liver and kidneys were transplanted at KMCH, while his eyes were donated to a private hospital in Coimbatore.
Doctors at KMCH’s organ transplant unit swiftly carried out the procedures, ensuring the organs reached recipients in time, offering them a fresh chance
at life.
Expressing gratitude, KMCH Chairman Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami said: “There is an urgent need for greater awareness about organ donation. Donating organs after death can save many lives. I sincerely thank the family of Mr. Naveenkumar for their noble act.”
