Tirupur Collector inaugurates handloom expo

Tirupur District Collector, Mr. Tha Krishturaj inaugurated a special handloom exhibition and sale on behalf of the handloom department on the occasion of the 10th National Handloom Day at the Collectorate on Wednesday.
He said National Handloom Day commemorates the Swadeshi movement started on 7th August 1905 to raise awareness about the importance of handloom industry and contribution of handloom to the socio-economic development of the country, and promote the handloom industry.
It is celebrated all over the country to raise the livelihood of the weavers and to raise the pride of the weavers. 
Soft silk sarees, cora cotton sarees, bedsheets, jamukalams, shawls and foot mats produced in the handlooms were displayed in the Expo.  20% discount is given on handloom items.  
In this ceremony, Mr. A. V. Karthikeyan, Assistant Director of Handloom Department, Mr. S. Suresh, Assistant Director of KVIB, Mr. Ko. Jaganathan, Co-Optex Manager, Handloom Department Officers, Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Managers and weavers participated.
