Tiruvannamalai Collector visits women SHG centre as part of Nirainthathu Manam project

Tiruvannamalai District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian visited the Thurinjapuram Panchayat Union as part of the "Nirainthathu Manam" project, inspecting the phenyl production undertaken by the Deepam Women's Self Help Group (SHG) in Ushampady Panchayat. 
This initiative is part of the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Movement aimed at empowering women through self-help groups.
Tamil Nadu has established 4.73 lakh SHGs under rural and urban livelihood programs, with 1.25 lakh new groups formed in the last three years, involving 14.91 lakh members. 
The current year's bank loan target is Rs 35,000 crore to support income-generating activities among SHGs, helping them achieve social and economic progress. During the inspection, the District Collector highlighted the role of various government schemes aimed at improving women's livelihoods, such as Vidiyal Payanam, Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai, and Pudhumai Pen. 
The Deepam SHG has received a loan of Rs 1.3 lakh to produce phenyl, which is used in government hospitals, health centers, and educational institutions.
The group currently produces 2,000 liters of phenyl per month, with plans to expand production to 20,000 liters, providing income for their families and job opportunities for other women.
