May 5 is observed as Traders Day annually across the state. Traders’ organizations held a meeting on that day, and pressed their long-standing demand of declaring May 5 as Traders Day. Each and every organization emphasizes the state government to fulfill their demand.
Paying attention to their demands, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday expressed his willingness to declare May 5 as Traders Day. Speaking at the traders’ demand declaration conference organized by the Federation of traders’ associations in Chennai, Stalin said that the state government would soon release an order, declaring May 5 as traders day.
He also announced that the assistant fund for permanent members of traders welfare board has been increased to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 3 lakh, and the free membership period has been extended to another six months.
“Businesses under 500 square feet, excluding food sales and storage businesses, will now be given business licenses through self-certification. Guidance committees will be set up to resolve problems of shops and commercial complexes. No fee will be charged for name boards not exceeding 9 square meters. A new website will be launched for small traders and traders on the Tamil Nadu Single Window website. Permission to open shops round the clock will be extended for another three years,” he added.
These announcements paved the path to the rise and revival of traders, and are welcomed by everyone including business tycoons, irrespective of their differences.
At a time when the business of local traders is being greatly affected by the dominance of corporate companies, it is no exaggeration to say that Stalin’s announcements have created great joy among the traders!
