Toll fee hike will take a toll on ordinary citizens

Toll fee hike will take a toll on ordinary citizens

The National Highways Authority in Tamil Nadu is implementing a 5 to 7 per cent toll hike in 25 more toll booths starting from 1st September. It is feared that the increase will affect the poor and ordinary people who rely on vehicles for daily survival. Further, it is felt that the increase will also increase rental prices of goods vehicles and the price of essential commodities, including vegetables.
Road facility is an essential requirement that a government has to provide to its citizens. It is not a luxury. Is there a need for such a toll collection system from the citizens to provide that essential facility? Don't need it? A question that will no doubt be loudly recorded as the only answer is not to put it to a voice vote of the people of the country.
Because it is a fact that today there is no home without a vehicle. Many houses have more than one vehicle. To that extent, vehicles play an important role in people's economic life. Yes, vehicles have become a basic need of people.
That's why people's unanimous voice of protest is heard more. In response to this, all party leaders are registering their opposition to the tariff hike.
Realizing this serious consequence, the National Highways Authority should immediately withdraw the toll fee hike notification.
