Traders have condemned the authorities for taking harsh action to vacate 10 shops in the newly constructed Gani Textile Market area under the Smart City project of Erode Corporation. Their association leaders Selvaraj and Noor Sait submitted a petition to the Erode Corporation Mayor Nagarathinam Subramaniam at the corporation office.
They said that the market built by the Corporation was recently inaugurated by the CM MK Stalin. We are thankful for retaining the name of the market as EKM Abdul Gani market. Traders have been doing business in the market for about 40 years. In 2019, the construction of the market was started under the Smart City project and we gave full support to it. In the name of constructing compound wall around the Market, 6 shops were removed by officials. We fully cooperated.
They said that they would build the shops within 10 days but they did not build it. Now, they say that they will build a ramp for four-wheelers movement to the market and wanted removal of ten more shops. In this connection, they threaten the traders and treat them harshly.
We request that the external work should be continued without affecting the business of the traders and after allotting shops to the existing traders within the market. We are thankful to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who named the commercial complex after EKM Abdul Gani Textile Market who donated land for it, they added.
