Tragedy in Velliangiri Hills 3 devotees die while climbing on the mountain

Three persons who climbed on the Velliangiri Hills died one after another.

Lakhs of devotees visit the Velliangiri temple, known as Tenkailayam, located in the Western Ghats of Coimbatore every year to worship the Shiva Lingam, which can be in the form of a Swayambu, over seven hills. From February to May, devotees are allowed to climb the mountain. While the devotees died due to suffocation, the forest department set up modern medical camps and the devotees were examined and then allowed to climb the mountain.

Unfortunately, two devotees who had climbed the mountain died yesterday.They are-Subbarao (68) from Hyderabad and Thyagarajan (35) from Salem who died while climbing 4th and 1st hill path. 

The bodies brought to the foot of the mountain with the help forest staff. 

 Pandian (46) from Theni district fell ill at 4 o'clock in the morning while climbing  in Vazhukkupparai area near the second hill.

Based on the information, forest staff rushed  to the spot and found that he died already.

The forest department brought his body to the foot of the hill and informed the Alandurai police station, and sent the bodies for autopsy.

 Every year the number of mountain climbers is increasing and the physical condition is affected due to suffocation and the casualties are also increasing. The devotees have demanded that a hospital with all facilities should be set up at the base of Vellingiri mountain. The death of 3 persons one by one create much distress in the area
