Tribal group given fuel wood powder making machine

District Collector H.Krishnanunni presented a machine with tractor, trailer,and crusher, worth Rs.16 lakhs to the Asanur Landana Tribal Working Group for producing fuel wood powder under the Vazhnthu Kattuvom Scheme at a function held at the Collectorate on Friday. 

To improve the livelihood of the tribals there, the government already provided assistance to the group to create furniture under the scheme. Now, the machine was provided to crush the landana sticks and make it as powder.

Mettupalayam forest college

The powder would be sent to an unit of the Mettupalayam forest college to make it as fuel wood blocks to be used in boilers, steel plants etc. The tribal members of the group would collect the landana sticks in the Sathy forest area there. 

The work would help each member of the group to earn Rs 300 daily and the fuel wood pieces could be sold at Rs 6000 per ton.  K Damodaran, District Executive Officer of Vazhnthu Kattuvom Project and officials were present.
