The Tribal Museum has been set up in Bhavanisagar near the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve. It was built at a cost of ₹7 crore to preserve and showcase the culture of the tribals. But due to lack of funds, it has not been used as 10 percent of the work could not be done.
The construction work started in December 2018 on an area of 20 hectares and was completed in 2020.
The museum houses traditional items, weapons and ethnographic objects of tribes like Thodar, Kotha, Kurumbar, Paniyar, Irular,
Information about the lifestyle, history, culture, etc. of the tribals is displayed in the museum.
The museum is also an important source for tribal research. Located 13 km from Bannari on the road to Tengumarahada, this museum has model houses of various tribes, ponds, tribal musical instruments, traditional costumes, antiques, and stone sculptures.
There is a pond, a natural walkway for visitors, a cultural indoor and outdoor arena, and buildings for visitors, students, researchers, and nature lovers.
Facilities including a borehole and an overhead tank have been constructed to provide drinking water. A natural landscape with plants used by the tribal people, and the structure of the museum and cultural village were seen. A 20-foot-high tribal model statue has been designed at the entrance of the museum. Now, it was unutilised and bushes were spread around it.
This museum, located adjacent to the Bhavanisagar dam, will become a tourist attraction place if it is renovated. The government should take steps to renovate the museum and make the younger generation aware of the livelihood of the tribals.
