Tributes paid to ‘Ayya’ on his birth anniversary

Noted Gandhian, veteran politician and educationist Dr T.S.Avinashilingam was fondly remembered  on his 119th birth anniversary on May 5 and his contributions to the society were highlighted during the celebrations.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. E.Sundaramoorthy, Vice Chairperson. Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT), Chennai, and Former Vice Chancellor, Tamil University, Thanjavur, said the veteran, who is fondly called Ayya, abided by the principles of ‘Tirukkural’, and lived a principled life. His strong values and ethics enabled him to establish these noble educational institutions, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya and Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, he pointed out.

Referring to Ayya’s publication of Tamil Encyclopaedia and the Children’s Encyclopaedia, he said they are actually milestones of human development.
Dr. Sundaramoorthy released the book “Consciousness Based Value Education,” authored by Swamiji Sri Jagadatmananda Saraswati, Sri Lalithambigai Trust, Coimbatore.

The Swamiji said Ayya practised what he preached in his life, and that is why he could attain greatness in life and these educational institutions are evident of his hard work.  
Sri Avinashilingam Institutions Chancellor S.P.Thiyagarajan, Managing Trustee Dr.T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram,Vice Chancellor Dr. Bharathi Harishankar, former Chancellor and trustee Dr.K.Kulandaivel and several other dignitaries paid tributes to the noble man on the occasion.

The Trust awarded scholarships to select students on the occasion. Several competitions were held for the students as part of the occasion.
