Chief Minister MK Stalin, On Tuesday, announced at the state legislative assembly that the new library being built in Trichy would be named after ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar’. The library was being built at a cost of Rs 290 crore.
During the demand for grants for the Public Works and Highways department, several members raised questions, and the ministers answered time.
Then Stalin said, “Libraries created under the Dravidian model regime are named after the great leaders of Tamil Nadu. For instance, the library in Kotturpuram was named the ‘Anna Centenary Library’ on the initiative of Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar. In Madurai, a library named after Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar was established, and it has benefited 16 lakh people and students so far."
"Following this, foundation stones have been laid in Coimbatore and Trichy, where world-class libraries are being built. Just as libraries named after ‘Thanthai Periyar’ in Coimbatore, ‘Perarignnar Anna’ in Chennai, and Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar in Madurai have been established, we will be naming the library that is being built at the cost of Rs 290 crores in Trichy after ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar,’" he added. The Chief Minister highlighted Kamarajar's significant contributions to education, mentioning how he started schools across villages in Tamil Nadu and initiated the midday meal scheme, which greatly impacted millions of families.
“It is fitting that the library in Trichy be named after Kamarajar, who played a key role in the educational revolution in Tamil Nadu,” he added.
