Truck owners stage stir at Sathy

Truck Drivers and Owners' Association protested on Thursday by laying siege to the district forest office demanding that vehicles be allowed on the Thimbam-Sathy ghat road as per the High Court order.
The government road in Erode District is the main route connecting Tamil Nadu-Kannada. Night traffic is prohibited on the ghat road which has 27 hair pin curves.
In this case, the Court recently issued an order allowing trucks with less than 10 wheels having less than 16.2 tonnes can move on the Hill route.
Other lorries should be diverted on alternative route. Accordingly, the association wanted enforcement of the court order and besieged Sathyamangalam forest office.
Subsequently, the District Forest Officer Sudhakar held a discussion with the association.
He assured as per the High Court order, heavy trucks will be sent via Bannari and Karapallam check post and steps will be taken to set up weighing platform in the forest check post there and lorries having 16.2 ton weight will be allowed to go from there on the ghat road
