Two Aavin cattlefeed units to be inaugurated by Dec: Minister

Two Aavin cattlefeed units to be inaugurated by Dec: Minister

Dairy development minister Manoj Thangaraj informed that the Centre has stopped subsidy for the cattlefeed being produced and sold by Aavin in the state so that only Aavin didn't give subsidy.
After inspecting the Erode Aavin cattlefeed production unit at Erode on Saturday, he said that the Aavin, however, was producing good quality cattlefeed and supplying it to coop milk society members coming under Aavin.
Two new cattle feed production of Aavin at Thuthukudi and Thittakudi, each having the capacity of 300 ton production capacity would commence production from December this year.
The units have been established by state government at a project cost of over Rs 30 cr each. Already, the CM inaugurated a 50 ton capacity unit at Virudhunagar.
Erode unit is producing 200-250 ton daily. Once Thuthukudi and Thittakudi units started production, the Aavin would fully meet the needs of milk producer-members of the primary milk societies coming under Aavin and also sell the cattlefeed in open market.
He refuted the stand of opposition leader EPS that the distribution of milch animals free of cost by ADMK rule increased the milk production in the state and as DMK rule stopped the scheme milk production was hit. The minister said the Aavin is receiving 36 lakh litres daily and it increases considerably during non lean season also. The Aavin, however has handling capacity upto 56 lakh litres per day.
To increase the milk production, Rs 98 cr loan was arranged in Erode District through coop and other banks to ryots to buy milch animals last year. This year also, such loan would be given liberally. So, milk production in the state increased and many agencies like Nandhini and Amul  from other states also buy milk here.
In the globalisation, such purchase cannot be stopped.
Erode district Aavin dairy has  been bifurcated and new Aavin district dairy was created for the newly created Tirupur district so that the total number of primary milk coop societies in Erode district came down to 475 from over 750 societies. If there is a demand, more societies would be formed.
About supply of ghee to Tirupathi devasthanam, he said that the price quoted by it for such purchase is not profitable. However, Palani and other major temples buy ghee from Aavin and ghee was exported to Arab countries also. Defence unit in the Nilgiris also buy ghee from Erode Aavin, he noted.
