The TADCO manager - incharge and a temporary office assistant who took a bribe of Rs.15,000 to grant a subsidy to the tractor was arrested. Kumar (age 42) a farmer from Maniarkundam area near Pethanayakkanpalayam in Salem district applied for a tractor loan for agricultural use at the TADCO manager's office in Salem Seelanayakanpatti few days ago. His application was accepted and interviews were conducted. Later he was given permission in the TADCO manager's office to take a loan of Rs.7½ lakh through Bank. Government provides 50 percent subsidy for purchase of tractor. He applied to the TADCO Manager's Office for the grant. TADCO manager (in-charge) G. Shanti had allegedly asked Kumar to pay a bribe of Rs 15.000 to sanction the subsidy. Unwilling to pay a bribe, he filed a complaint with the Salem Anti Corruption and Vigilance Police.
The police registered a case and they gave Rs. 15 thousand coated with chemical powder to Kumar yesterday. The police, led by anti-bribery police inspector Ravichandran, went in disguise wearing lungis. Then Kumar gave the bribe money of Rs.15,000 to the manager (in charge) G. Shanthi. She asked him to give the money to a temporary employee M. Shanthi. Kumar then gave him bribe money. At that time, anti-bribery police arrested the TADCO manager incharge G. Shanthi and the temporary assistant M. Shanthi.
