Union Minister inaugurates EIC laboratories at SAMEER, Chennai

Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information
Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, has dedicated fully automated state-of-
the-art Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility (EMI/EMC) laboratories to qualify
electronic equipment and systems for Military and Civilian Applications. These laboratories are
established at SAMEER-Centre for Electromagnetics in Chennai, following the Hon'ble Prime
Minister's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives. The total Indian market for EMI and EMC tests is
estimated to be around INR 640-660 crore, with an expected growth of INR 1,000-1,200 crore by
2030.
SAMEER-CEM is funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY),
Government of India, and is fully prepared to meet the challenges of EMI/EMC compliance. Dr.
P. Hanumantha Rao, Director General of SAMEER, said that this is a milestone achievement in
the journey of SAMEER's efforts as an R&D Laboratory. SAMEER's services have been utilized
by various industries, MNCs, start-ups, and SSI/MSME, manufacturing products such as
automotive, military, ISM, and avionics.
SAMEER has been actively pursuing R&D in areas such as Intentional Electromagnetic EMI
(IEMI) and high energy Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to protect critical electronic infrastructure.
The indigenously developed Medical Linear Accelerator (LINAC) System, designed and
developed by SAMEER, has been deployed at Adyar Cancer Hospital in Chennai. Under the
Prime Minister's vision, MeitY funded the development of 6 MV Medical LINACs, which have
delivered over four lakh patient exposures at various hospitals.
