Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday announced in the assembly that a university named after former Chief Minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi will be established in Kumbakonam.
A special resolution was passed in the assembly in front of the assembly Speaker Appavu to establish a university in the name of Karunanidhi. The resolution was passed unanimously in the assembly. Political parties including Congress, PMK, VCK, CPI and MDMK expressed their support.
MLA Selvaperunthagai, who is the state president of the Congress, said, “Karunanidhi is a leader with impeccable qualities and talents. He is still alive among us. It is because of the seeds sown by him, Tamil Nadu has become a pioneer.”
PMK’s GK Mani said, “Karunanidhi removed the sufferings of the common public. Since universities are named after all leaders, it would better suit everyone if a university is named after Karunanidhi.”
Stalin said that MLAs Selvaperunthagai, GK Mani, Chinthana Selvan, VP Nagaimali, Ramachandran, Dr Sadhan Thirumalaikumar, Dr MH Jawahirullah, R Easwaran, and T Velmurugan, expressed their views under rule 55 to name a university after Karunanidhi.
“All the educational institutions in the state have prospered in such a way that they are shown as an example to others. Of the numerous leaders, Karunanidhi also plays a vital role in uplifting the quality of education and educational institutions in the state. I announce that a university named after Karunanidhi will be established in Kumbakonam,” he added.
