The US government has introduced a new visa program called the Golden Visa, which grants permanent residency to individuals who invest five million dollars in the United States.
The existing EB-5 visa program in the US also provides a pathway to citizenship for foreigners who invest a significant amount of money. Under this program, foreigners must invest between $800,000 and $1 million (approximately Rs. 8.8 crore) and create jobs for at least 10 people. A green card can be obtained within 6 to 8 years of making the investment.
Now, the Trump administration has introduced the Gold Card Visa program to replace the EB-5 visa. Foreigners who want to become permanent residents of the US often face long waiting periods under the current H1B and other visa procedures. However, with an investment of Rs. 44 crores ($5 million), permanent residency can be obtained easily. The Trump administration hopes that this Gold Card program will attract significant investment to the United States.
Many Indian graduates aspire to settle in the US. Even if they secure a work visa, obtaining permanent residency is often challenging. Indians already living and working in the US worry about their chances of obtaining citizenship. It is in this context that the Trump administration has introduced the Gold Card Visa.
Unlike the EB-5 visa, the Gold Card Visa does not require job creation, making it easier for US companies to employ Indian students studying in American universities. These students can secure permanent residency through investment, eliminating the need to leave the country. The goal of this program is to retain talented individuals in the US.
Although this scheme will primarily benefit affluent Indians, particularly students, it provides a better and safer path for those seeking permanent residency in the US. It is indeed a welcome move!
