Department of School Education allotted Rs.5,000 each to 1288 government schools to establish vegetable gardens.
Erode Collector Rajagopal Sunkara said that a fund of Rs.64.40 lakh has been allocated at the rate of Rs.5,000 each to establish vegetable garden in 1288 government middle, high and higher secondary schools in Erode district.
In the vegetable garden, many vegetables are grown and provided to school noonmeal scheme. In Pommanayakanpalayam Panchayat Union Middle School, Gobi, along with a vegetable garden many herbs are grown in the garden which are not easily available. The benefits of them are explained to the general public and students.
Also, plants that emit more oxygen are planted in the school biosphere. Once one enters this area, he/she will find that the temperature is less than 2 to 3 degrees there.
