Vellalore Pond Butterfly park inauguration ceremony held in Coimbatore

Vellalore Pond Butterfly park inauguration ceremony held in Coimbatore

The Vellalore Pond Butterfly Park was inaugurated in Coimbatore on August 8 marking the culmination of seven years of dedicated efforts to enhance biodiversity and water quality in the region. The park, developed with the support of Milacron India Private Limited (Mold Masters Division) under CSR funding, is a significant addition to the area, aimed at protecting butterfly species and promoting environmental awareness.
The project began in 2017 with the dredging of Vellalore Pond and the planting of over 10,000 Miyawaki forests and 275 native tree species. The park now boasts over 200 plant species, including bamboo and medicinal vines, which have successfully attracted a variety of butterflies. A butterfly census conducted by
The Nature and Butterfly Society documented 103 species in the area, leading to the publication of "The Butterflies of Vellalore Wetland."
The park’s inauguration featured special guests, including S. Ramasubramanian, IFS Conservator of Forests, and Hans Hagelstein, Global President of Mold-Masters & DME. The park includes various attractions, such as a Tamil Nadu Butterfly Gateway, bamboo bridge, butterfly pond, and educational installations. Open to the public on Sundays, it offers free admission, with school and corporate groups able to book visits from Monday to Saturday.
