Vellore Ibrahim, the national leader of BJP's minority wing, was arrested in Coimbatore for campaigning without permission.
He visited the Thadagam Road Edayarpalayam area with more than 30 BJP members to support State President Annamalai, who is contesting as the BJP candidate for the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat.
Upon arrival, police and election flying squad officials informed them that campaigning without proper permission was not allowed. However, a heated argument ensued between Vellore Ibrahim, BJP members, and the police.
Eventually, they decided to leave the area but continued campaigning by buying products from nearby shops and soliciting votes from the public.
The police arrested six individuals, including Vellore Ibrahim, for campaigning without permission and took them to the Goundampalayam police station.
Some BJP members attempted to protest by sitting in front of the police vehicle, causing a commotion. However, the police dispersed the crowd, bringing an end to the situation.
