Coimbatore's VGM Hospital and the Kovai Athletic Club are collaborating to host the 'Run 4 Nation' marathon on August 11, 2024. This event, which previously ran from 2017 to 2019, is making a comeback after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The marathon aims to promote sports, education, and health, with a specific focus on combating obesity, themed "Run against Obesity."
VGM Hospital, known for its excellence in gastroenterology, orthopaedics, and multi-specialty services, is joining forces with the Kovai Athletic Club, a staple in the Coimbatore sports community for 25 years. The event will take place at VOC Grounds and is expected to attract 5,000 to 6,000 participants, including the general public, athletes, school children, college students, and members of various industries and organisations.
This year’s marathon will not only feature cash prizes totaling over Rs 1 lakh for various categories but will also support multiple social causes. Funds raised will go towards distributing books, food, and clothing to underprivileged children from government schools. Additionally, school children from Corporation schools will receive free entry to the marathon.
A significant highlight of the event is its partnership with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown through their 'Limp-2-Run' project, which will provide free knee ligament surgeries for athletes from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Leading up to the marathon, Dr. Suman and the VGM medical team are conducting awareness sessions on various health topics at sports clubs, schools, colleges, old age homes, and IT industries to raise medical awareness.
