VGM Hospital, in collaboration with Kovai Athletic Club, organised the "RunforNation 2024" marathon on August 11 at VOC Grounds, Coimbatore. The event, which saw over 3,500 participants, was supported by various institutions and organizations, including Karur Vysya Bank, CRI Pumps, and Rotary Club Coimbatore Downtown.
The marathon, focused on promoting sports, health, and education, also emphasised raising awareness about obesity. Notably, wheelchair-bound individuals were encouraged to participate, highlighting the event's inclusive nature. Dr. Suman, an orthopaedic surgeon and Vice-President of the marathon, announced that free ligament surgeries would be provided to selected underprivileged athletes with the support of Rotary Club.
Dr. VG Mohan Prasad, Chairman of VGM Hospital, emphasised the marathon's role in fostering community health and fitness. Additionally, 983 children from 25 corporation schools were enrolled in a full-day athletic event, funded by the marathon proceeds.
The event also featured health talks by a team of 11 doctors, and cash prizes totaling over ₹1.5 lakh were awarded to more than 30 winners across different categories.
