Actor-turned-politician Vijay started his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam about a year ago with high expectations. With the state elections just a year away, he has decided to contest alone in the election without being able to attract any alliance.
Vijay wanted to form an alliance with Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). But the party head Thol Thirumavalaavan has clearly stated that he will never leave the DMK alliance. Vijay could only pull Adhav Arjuna, who was removed from VCK, to his party.
Once the move failed terribly, Vijay moved coins to form an alliance with the AIADMK. It was even said that he held talks with AIADMK cadres, and even a few AIADMK leaders supported his party. But it was said that he demanded half of the MLA seats and the Chief Minister post. He wanted to be the CM at least for half of the term. How will Edappadi K Palaniswami accept such a demand? The alliance talks ended as soon as it started, and it vanished without a trace after AIADMK announced their alliance with the BJP.
Chances are high that PMK and DMDK will also join hands with the AIADMK. Due to the ideological differences, Naam Tamilar Katchi’s Seeman will never join hands with the BJP, and he decided to contest alone in the election.
With Vijay and Seeman contesting alone in the election, a four-pronged battle has become inevitable in the 2026 state assembly election. The DMK-led alliance, the AIADMK-led alliance, Vijay’s TVK, and Seeman’s NTK will fight against each other in the election. This battle will divide the votes of opposition parties into three i.e., all the votes that are against the DMK and its alliance parties will be divided into three. As a result, no particular party will get a majority. In the 2016 election, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa became the Chief Minister because of the votes that split between other parties.
Vijay is the one who created the four-pronged battle in the election. Political enthusiasts also say that Vijay complicated the election scenario by missing all the opportunities he got. Only a miracle can make things work better for him. Whenever a four-pronged battle is witnessed in election, it always worked in favour of the ruling party. Let’s wait and see the election outcomes.
