Vijay Will Not Win in 2026, Says Vaiko

MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has asserted that the DMK-led alliance will secure a sweeping victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, dismissing predictions that actor Vijay and his party would emerge successful.

Speaking to reporters at the Madurai airport after arriving from Chennai, Vaiko commented on the recent Karur stampede tragedy during a public gathering of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). “The election excitement has already begun, and Vijay has started his party tour. He must have been informed that people had waited over seven hours in Karur. Anticipating possible risks, he could have managed his trip more carefully,” Vaiko said.

He added that the tragic death of 41 people and the exhaustion of those waiting for long hours without water could have been prevented. “Vijay, instead of returning to Chennai immediately after the incident, could have stayed in Trichy and visited the victims’ families personally. The organisers, including TVK functionaries N. Anand and others, should have ensured proper safety arrangements. From now on, all such meetings must have adequate security,” he stressed.

When asked which political party might benefit from the Karur incident, Vaiko firmly stated, “No matter what anyone says, the DMK alliance will win the 2026 elections by a landslide. Surveys and political speculations being circulated now will not affect the DMK’s chances. The argument that Vijay will win cannot be accepted.”

Responding to PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss’s recent claim that mineral resources were being looted in districts including Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari, Vaiko said, “It is not clear on what basis he made that statement. He issues statements daily — it is impossible to respond to each one.”

Vaiko concluded by emphasizing that all political movements should prioritize public safety and responsibility as election fever builds across the state
