Water Hyacinth removal process begins at Kurichi Lake

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati oversaw the commencement of the water hyacinth removal process at Kurichi Lake, using modern equipment on June 10. The initiative aims to clear the lake of invasive water hyacinth to enhance rainwater storage capacity ahead of the monsoon season. Coimbatore Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar and Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran also inspected the progress.
This effort is part of a broader project by the Coimbatore Corporation to clean multiple lakes in the region, including Krishnampathi Lake, Selvampathi Lake, Kumaraswamy Lake, Selvachinthamani Lake, Ukkadam Big Lake, and Valankulam.
During his visit, the district collector directed government officials to expedite the hyacinth removal to ensure the lakes are clear before the onset of the monsoon. Additionally, he distributed free academic books to students at Kuniamuthur Government Higher Secondary School, alongside the Mayor and Corporation Commissioner. Deputy Mayor R Vetriselvan and several other government officials were also present at the event.
