Following the increase in water inflow due to continuous heavy rains in the Bargur hills near Andhiyur, the water level of Varattupallam dam has risen by 4 feet in the last 5 days.
The 33.46 feet high Varattupallam dam is located at the foot of Bargur hills. The water inflow to this dam had been increasing for the last few days due to heavy rains in the Bargur hills. In this situation, due to heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday, the overflowing water from the Kallupallam, Kumbavanipallam and Varattupallam streams reached the dam.
As a result, the water level of the dam has risen by 4.36 feet in the last 5 days and increased to 25.92 feet. The water flow is 169 cubic feet per second. On the 18th, the water level in the dam was 21.56 feet. Farmers have said that if the rain continues, the water flow to the dam will increase and it will fill up soon. Assistant Engineer of the Water Resources Department L.Kirupakaran and officials are continuously monitoring the water flow to the dam.
