Water released from Perumpallam Dam for irrigation at Erode

Housing Minister Mr. S Muthusamy opened the sluizes of Perumpallam (Kasipalayam) Dam in Erode Corporation for irrigating over 2545 acre in Nanchai Oothukuli village on Wednesday.
He said Keelbhavani main canal has 34 water harnessing projects providing irrigation facility for 17285 acres.
The Nanjai Oothukuli Canal of the Perumpallam dam, which also gets seepage water of Keelbhavani canal, is 12 km long and has been constructed in the year of 1968 to provide irrigation facilities to 2545 acres of agricultural land.
The first 6 km of this canal is in the Erode Municipal Corporation area. It was about 30 feet deep. So, the canal was blocked with debris and mud and it became impossible to supply water for irrigation. Therefore, with the aim of providing water for irrigation, a fund of Rs.21 lakhs has been allocated by the Water Resources Department and the work of dredging 30 feet of debris and mud for a distance of about 4 km with a modern  machined recently.
Now, all the dredging work has been completed. So, the leakage water coming to the dam has been opened today for irrigation at the rate of 40 cubic feet per second in the Nanchai Uthukuli canal. Through this, about 2545 acres of agricultural land will be irrigated and ground water will improve in ward numbers - 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 in Erode Corporation Zone-4 and 46- Pudur, Lakkapuram, Muthukaundanpalayam and Nanjai Uthukuli panchayats under Modakurichi Union.
