Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a gathering of small and micro entrepreneurs, farmers, and businessmen at the CODISSIA campus in Coimbatore yesterday. The event, organised by CODISSIA and the Laghu Udyog Bharati Industrial Organisation, saw participation from business leaders across Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode. Coimbatore MLA Vanathi Srinivasan was also present.
In her speech, Sitharaman emphasised the government's efforts to support business growth, announcing the removal of 1,500 outdated laws and the cancellation of 40,000 complaints, which she said would ease the path for entrepreneurs. She highlighted the ongoing Atal Innovation Mission and the Defense Corridor projects as initiatives aiding Coimbatore's business-friendly environment.
The Minister assured that officials from various departments, including GST, Customs, and the Income Tax Department, had arrived from Delhi to hear grievances from industrialists.
She promised swift action on these issues once she returns to Delhi.
Sitharaman also discussed the expansion of SIDBI Bank's presence in Coimbatore, mentioning that the bank has already provided loans worth ₹620 crore to the region's micro industries.
She expressed the government's commitment to further support small and micro industries through various schemes and concessions introduced in the recent budget.
A hotelier requested the Finance Minister to reduce GST on mixers, sweets, and food, and promised to bring the GST-related concerns to the GST Council for further discussion.
