The first phase of voting in the Bihar elections, which have been a hotbed of schemes, promises and allegations for weeks, is underway today. There is a four-way contest between the National Democratic Alliance, the Mahagathbandhan (Maha) alliance, Jan Suraj, and the Maha Democratic Alliance. Many leaders, including Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi, have taken to the field and campaigned.
The opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance consists of 7 regional and national parties. Among them, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Indian National Congress, and the Communist Party play a prominent role.
The state has a large number of young voters, so Tejashwi’s support is increasing among the youth. Tejashwi’s only focus during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister was to provide employment. The party claims that he created 5 lakh jobs in the 17 months he was Deputy Chief Minister. Tejashwi’s actions have resonated with the young voters.
Despite the initial difficulties in the Mahagathbandhan alliance over the announcement of the CM candidate and the seat-sharing issue, Tejashwi has been declared the CM candidate. It is also noteworthy that the people of Bihar had already given Tejashwi a large amount of support in various opinion polls regarding the next CM.
The Yadav community and the Muslim vote bank are a strength for RJD. With almost 17.7% Muslim voters, this is a strength for RJD. If you include the votes of the Yadav community, the total vote is almost 30%.
The Congress party was once influential among the Scheduled Castes in the state. Although Nitish has significantly shifted their votes to his side through various welfare schemes, the Congress is now regaining its support.
Despite Bihar being a state filled with young leaders and young voters, the Mahagathbandhan alliance is facing severe criticism of succession politics.
The leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) continue to refer to it as Jungle Raj, which is seen as a setback for the Mahagathbandhan as the law and order problems that occurred during the RJD regime are still fresh in the minds of the people.
In every election in Bihar, the margin of victory is getting smaller and smaller. In such a situation, Congress and RJD are competing among themselves in about 9 seats. This is something that directly affects the Mahagathbandhan alliance.
At the same time, the fact that people feel the need for change during Nitish’s nearly 20-year rule is seen as an opportunity for the Mahagathbandhan alliance.
With employment issues at their peak, the RJD has released its election manifesto on the theme of social justice and employment. In a state with a large youth population, promises like government jobs for every member of the family are opportunities that could help the Mahagathbandhan.
Prashant Kishor has tried to win over the state’s large number of young voters.
Although the Muslim community votes are expected to go to RJD, Owaisi is in the fray to split them. The National Democratic Alliance, which contested as a third party in the last election, won the most seats in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region. Tejashwi’s brother Tej Pratap is a threat to RJD.
So, there is no doubt that the Bihar elections will be a tough contest between the RJD & Congress alliance and the NDA alliance that includes the BJP.
The people of Bihar have started stamping their single finger today. Let’s wait for the exciting election results to be announced.
May good governance flourish in Bihar!
