Wild elephants wandering in search of water in Sathyamangalam

A large number of wild elephants live in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve forest of Erode district. For the past few months, the entire forest region has been experiencing dry conditions. Water has dried up in ditches, ponds, streams, and dams. Due to this, incidents of wild elephants leaving the forest in search of fodder and water continue to occur. They walk on Sathyamangalam-Mysore National Highway, near Bannari. They with their cubs have camped on the side of the National Highway in search of water. Motorists saw their presence and stopped their vehicles for a while to have fun. The forest department has warned motorists not to park their vehicles on the forest road as wild elephants often cross the forest road. Due to the severe drought in the forest, the forest department is trying to quench the thirst of wild animals. The forest activists have demanded that artificial tanks should be kept in the forest area with water.
