Will Amit Shah answer constituency delimitation questions?

Will Amit Shah answer constituency delimitation questions?

Political parties including the ruling DMK have alleged that if constituency delimitation is done based on population, there is a risk of a reduction in Lok Sabha constituencies in the southern states. The union government recently announced that a nationwide population census will be conducted in March 2027.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has been criticizing the BJP-led union government for delaying the census. The subsequent delimitation is not accidental, according to him. He alleged that there is a possibility of restructuring the constituencies in favor of certain interests by reducing the number of Lok Sabha constituencies in the southern states.
However, Union Minister L Murugan accused him of creating a non-existent ghost in the name of constituency delimitation. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami ambiguously responded by saying, “If Tamil Nadu’s representation in the Lok Sabha is reduced in 2027, we will oppose it then,” implying that he has let a danger that has already reached our doorstep pass by.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Madurai on Sunday. On this occasion, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran raised questions to Amit Shah regarding constituency delimitation. The MP said, “We don’t want mere words that Tamil Nadu’s MP constituencies will not be reduced. Is Amit Shah ready to legally guarantee that Tamil Nadu’s share of representation in the Lok Sabha, currently at 7.18%, will not change?”
Taking to X platform, another DMK MP, Tamizhachi Thangapandian, said, “The population census that couldn’t be conducted in 2021 due to COVID-19 could have been done in 2023, 2024, or 2025. But intentionally delaying it to 2027 has only one aim – to increase the number of Lok Sabha members based on population.”
Similarly, DMK Rajya Sabha member NR Elango cast suspicion saying, “If delimitation is done based on population, this is clearly BJP’s attempt to reduce the parliamentary representation of southern states that have controlled population growth, and to increase the representation of northern states, thereby easily securing power in the next election.”
All of Tamil Nadu expected Amit Shah to respond to the DMK MPs’ questions in Madurai. But he left for Delhi without uttering a word on the issue.
The question of whether Amit Shah is ready to legally assure that there will be no change in Tamil Nadu’s 7.18% representation in the Lok Sabha is not just that of the DMK MPs, but also of the people of Tamil Nadu who are always prepared to fight for their rights. Will we get an answer from the union minister?
