Will PMK be a part of the BJP-AIADMK alliance?

Will PMK be a part of the BJP-AIADMK alliance?

A leadership tussle within the PMK between the party founder Dr Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss has intensified. It is not just a contest for leadership, but also a power struggle between father and son.
While many of the party's district secretaries have rallied behind Anbumani, four out of the seven members of the national executive committee have sided with Ramadoss. According to the party’s organizational rules, the founder Ramadoss holds greater authority, and all office bearers including the president must function under his guidance.
However, Ramadoss, who opposes Anbumani’s eagerness to ally with the BJP for the 2026 elections, is reportedly ready to expel his son from the party, taking the conflict to a peak. Ramadoss’ supporters say that he is still determined, even at his age, to elevate the PMK, a party he built through his own hard work, to greater heights in the 2026 elections.
During Union minister Amit Shah's visit to Chennai on April 11, the BJP had already planned an alliance with AIADMK and PMK. But recalling how caste-based parties that allied with the BJP eventually disappeared, Ramadoss reportedly voiced strong opposition to a BJP alliance.
Meanwhile, confusion arises not only within the PMK but also for the BJP in the present scenario. What will Ramadoss do if he doesn’t want to be a part of the BJP-AIADMK alliance?
Although Ramadoss and Anbumani recently met, and no agreement was reached, the gap between them hasn’t completely closed. While party leaders are trying hard to reconcile them, the BJP too is stepping in for its own electoral advantage. BJP supporters Auditor Gurumurthy and Saidai Duraisamy have met Ramadoss and are continuing efforts toward that end.
Just as the AIADMK-BJP alliance was formalized on April 11, expectations are high that Amit Shah, who is visiting Tamil Nadu on Saturday, will also successfully formalize a PMK-BJP alliance.
Anbumani wants an alliance with BJP. Ramadoss hasn’t outright opposed an AIADMK alliance. Now that BJP and AIADMK have allied, why should Ramadoss hesitate to join an AIADMK-led front? Will PMK get caught in the BJP’s net? Will Amit Shah's plan succeed?
