Dr SK Sundararaman, managing director of Shiva Texyarn, was unanimously elected as the chairman of SIMA during its 64th annual general meeting that took place on Thursday.
While Durai Palanisamy, executive director of Pallava textiles in Erode, has been elected as deputy chairman, S Krishnakumar, managing director of Sulochana cotton spinning mills in Tirupur, has been elected as the vice-chairman.
Addressing the news persons, Sundararaman said that the association would strive to address structural issues and enhance global competitiveness of the industry.
“There is an urgent need to announce technology mission cotton 2.0 as 7 million farmers and 35 million people in the value chain are directly depending upon the availability of quality cotton at an internationally competitive rate,” he added.
He also urged the industry to focus on value addition and niche products and called upon the industry to take advantage of NTTM for technical textiles, PM Mitra and PLI scheme.
