The members of Tamil Nadu transport workers' unions have announced their decision to go on an indefinite strike if the government doesn't agree to their demands in the 14th wage revision talks that is scheduled to take place in Chennai on Wednesday.
This is the sixth round of talks that is going to take place between the government and the workers, regarding the 14th wage revision agreement ever since the previous wage agreement expired in August 2019. So far, the government and the workers have not reached a common ground.
The fifth round of talk took place between the transport minister SS Sivasankar and representatives of trade unions on July 11 and many of the employees’ demands including pay hike, were not accepted.
While the trade unions have declared that they will go on indefinite strike from Thursday if the meeting does yield any fruitful results, the transport department has issued a circular directing all its employees not to take leave from Wednesday and upon taking leave, they will be marked absent and their pay would be cut.
