Will Trump’s intervention lead to a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire?

War between Ukraine and Russia broke out in 2022, and it has been going on for three years, despite numerous ceasefires and peace talks.
Following the constant pursuit from the US president Donald Trump, representatives from both Russia and Ukraine held talks in Istanbul last week. This is the first time the countries have held a talk ever since the war broke out. But no ceasefire agreement has been reached at that point. Though Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire, Russia has been dictating conditions.
Meanwhile, Trump spoke with Russian president Vladimir Putin over the phone on Monday for about two hours. Following which, he took to X platform, to announce that, “negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately." He also appreciated the tone and spirit of the conversation with Putin.
Putin has also reciprocated Trump’s support for the resumption of direct talks between Moscow and Kiev. He also made unprecedented statements to the country’s media. He said that a ceasefire with Ukraine is possible if "mutually acceptable agreements" are reached. All this is seen as a signal for a ceasefire.
So, in a sudden turn, the long-awaited phone conversation between Trump and Putin has raised hopes that the war between Russia and Ukraine will end. Putin and Zelensky have agreed to the talks. The world expects this to take shape soon and end the war.
May the Putin-Zelensky meeting take place soon. May the ceasefire bloom!
