International Women’s Day was celebrated in the Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, on Wednesday. Dr. Joyce Ponniah, former Director, Christian Medical College, Vellore, was the Chief Guest and handed over prizes to winners of various competitions on the occasion.In his address, Dr. G.V.Sampath, Chairman, Naruvi Hospitals, said India had a long history of treating women equally and giving a lot of importance to women, irrespective of the roles they played at home, in society, or in the service of the nation. In her address, Dr. Joyce Ponnaiah said everyone should encourage and contribute to women’s participation in all walks of life.
Their role in the medical fraternity was huge, she said, adding that it was everyone’s duty to accord due rights to women. Dr. Sonia Mary Kurian, Chief Paediatrician, Dr. Ramya, Gynaecologist, spoke about women empowerment. Dr. Aruna Kekre, Chief Gynaecologist, Nithin Sampath, General Manager, doctors, medical staff took part. Earlier, Dr. Aravindan Nair, Director of Medical Services, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Jacob Jose, Medical Superintendent, thanked the gathering.
