To mark World Diabetes Day, a Zumba Dance and Walkathon event was organized at Coimbatore Race Course yesterday, with over 500 participants, including doctors, nurses, students, and local residents. The event was inaugurated yesterday by V. Balakrishnan, Commissioner of Coimbatore Police.
The walkathon was a joint initiative by the Indian Medical Association Coimbatore, Rotary Club of Coimbatore District 3201 ,Kovai Diabetes Center, RSSTI Tamil Nadu, and Indian Overseas Bank. The event aimed to raise public awareness about diabetes prevention and management.
Dr. R. Balamurugan, CEO of Kovai Diabetes Center, emphasized the importance of healthy living, stating that India has the largest diabetic population globally, with over 101 million affected. He also announced special health camps from November 14 to 24, offering discounted checkups for diabetes, eye, kidney, and bone health.
In his address, V. Balakrishnan urged the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly and following a balanced diet. He stressed that diabetes is a root cause of several serious health conditions, including heart disease. The event was supported by key dignitaries, including Rotary Club Presidents and senior officials from the medical community.
