Tamil Development and Information Minister M.P. Saminathan on Wednesday inaugurated completed development works worth Rs. 12.90 crore and launched new projects in Kangeyam and Vellakoil Panchayat Unions in Tiruppur district.
The projects were implemented under the Integrated Devolved Revenue Scheme and the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation.
Among the major works inaugurated was a high-level bridge built at a cost of Rs. 8 crore on the Paranjervazhi–Kurukkapalayam Road to Noyyal Poochakattuvalasu via Thappayankadu in Kangeyam Panchayat Union. Water filling works in overhead tanks serving South Valasu, Shanmugapalayam and Kuppanayakkan Valasu were also taken up at a cost of Rs. 2.02 crore.
Knowledge centres were established at Varathappanpalayam in Pappini Panchayat and at Saraswathi Nagar in Valliyarachal Panchayat at a cost of Rs. 1.31 crore each through the Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation.
Other works included strengthening of roads in the Adi Dravidar residential area at Amaravathipalayam, construction of a cement road, installation of a 2,000-litre water storage tank and extension of drinking water pipelines in Varattukkarai Nayakkan colony.
Addressing the gathering, Saminathan said the State Government was implementing welfare schemes and infrastructure projects to fulfil election assurances and ensure balanced rural development.
Executive Engineer Nataraj, Kangeyam Block Development Officer Rajendran, Assistant Engineer Saravanakumar and other officials attended the event.
