Youth injured as fans chase Vijay’s convoy near Thanjavur

A youth was seriously injured after several motorcycles met with accidents while following the convoy of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay near Chengipatti in Thanjavur district on Wednesday.
Vijay had travelled from Chennai to Tiruchirappalli by a private flight to attend a party executive meeting being held near Chengipatti. He later proceeded to the meeting venue by road.
A large number of party cadres and fans had gathered along the route to see him. Some supporters followed Vijay’s vehicle on motorcycles, riding at high speed on the national highway.
Police said several youths chased the convoy without wearing helmets and allegedly violated traffic rules, leading to multiple minor accidents on the road.
In one such incident, a youth sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
Earlier, Vijay had appealed to his supporters during a public meeting in Vellore not to follow his convoy or engage in risky behaviour on roads.
Despite the warning, the incident involving supporters chasing the vehicle and meeting with accidents has created concern among the public and authorities.
