Firefighters in Surat in Gujarat recovered Rs. 2 lakh in cash that was accidentally thrown into a canal along with puja items, in an incident that has gone viral on social media.
According to officials, a family in Surat had recently conducted a special puja at their residence.
After the rituals were completed, the flowers and other materials used in the puja were collected in a bag and kept inside a bureau.
A separate bag containing Rs. 2 lakh in cash, packed in four bundles of Rs. 500 notes, had also been kept in the same bureau.
The cash bag was inadvertently mixed with the bag containing the puja materials. Unaware of the mix-up, family members later took the bag containing the puja items to a nearby canal and immersed it in the water as part of the ritual. Only after returning home did they realise that the bag containing the money had also been thrown into the canal.
Shocked by the discovery, the family immediately informed the fire and rescue services.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and entered the canal to conduct a search operation. After a brief effort, they managed to retrieve the bag containing the cash and returned it to the
family. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the rescue operation.
The prompt action of the firefighters has been widely appreciated, and a video of the incident has been circulating widely on social media.
