Two elephants electrocuted by illegal fence near Tirupati

Two elephants died after getting trapped in an illegal electric fence set up near a farmland in the forest fringe area near Tirupati.
According to forest officials, the incident occurred near Saipalapalli village adjoining the Bagarapet forest area, where elephants frequently move in search of food.
Farmers Sheikh Akhtar and Sheikh Sameer had cultivated groundnuts in their fields and allegedly installed an electric fence to prevent wild boars from damaging the crop.
During the night, two elephants reportedly came into contact with the electrified fence and were electrocuted.
On receiving information, Tirupati District Forest Officer Sai Baba and other forest officials rushed to the spot and inspected the area.
Police have registered a case against Sheikh Akhtar and Sheikh Sameer for allegedly installing the illegal electric fence, and further investigation is under way.
