RPF recovers 205 mobile phones worth Rs 62.91 lakh lost on trains

The Railway Protection Force of Southern Railway has recovered and returned 205 mobile phones worth Rs. 62.91 lakh that were lost by passengers while travelling on trains.
Officials said the initiative is being carried out with the support of the Central Equipment Identity Register system of the Department of Telecommunications to trace and recover stolen or missing mobile phones.
Passengers who lose their mobile phones during train journeys can file complaints with the Railway Protection Force, following which the details are uploaded and tracked through the CEIR system.
The RPF coordinates with police and authorities across the country to trace the devices and return them to their rightful
owners. According to officials, several mobile phones lost in Chennai were traced and recovered from places including New Delhi, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Southern Railway RPF Inspector General Arul Jyothi on Monday handed over eight recently recovered mobile phones to the concerned passengers in Chennai. Officials said that since April last year, a total of 205 mobile phones worth Rs. 62.91 lakh have been recovered and returned to passengers.
